A little bit about Counce, TN

First Baptist Counce is located in the Counce/Pickwick community in southern Hardin County, Tennessee. Hardin County is unique in that it borders both Mississippi and Alabama, but our defining feature is the Tennessee River. Our church campus is less than 5 minutes from beautiful Pickwick Lake, one of the premier vacation and retirement destinations in the Mid-South. Most of the land just south of Pickwick Landing Dam is part of Pickwick Landing State Park, including its popular golf course. Our community is well known for boating, sportfishing, golf, hunting and assorted watersports. In summer the population explodes as vacationers and weekenders flood the area, particularly from the Memphis/Shelby County area. Resort real estate is big business, and multimillion dollar waterfront homes are perched along the lakeshore. Also located just minutes from our church campus is Shiloh National Military Park, site of the Battle of Shiloh, one of the most defining battles of the Civil War. The park welcomes approximately 500,000 visitors per year. The Shiloh battlefield has within its boundaries the well preserved prehistoric Shiloh Indian Mounds Site, which is also a National Historic Landmark. Our community is served by the Hardin County School system, which includes 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 1 high school. Hardin County High School is located in the county seat of Savannah, about 15 minutes from our church campus, and is home to approximately 1,100 students. Popular events in Hardin County include the annual Catfish Derby, the nationally- recognized Christmas On Main festival, annual Catfish Derby, Civil War reenactments, 4th of July Fireworks on Pickwick Lake, and many professional fishing tour events.
