Executive Pastor of First Baptist Church Merritt Island
Merritt Island, FL
From birth to college graduation, Mobile, AL was home. I became a follower of Christ at the age of six. At the end of my freshman year of college I sensed a strong calling into worship ministry. In 1991, I married Amy, the love of my life. We moved to Texas and joined the staff of FBC Euless while attending Southwestern Seminary. Our family grew in triplicate in 1998 with the births of Blake, Tanner and McKenna. In 2005 Corban was born to complete the Dean household. Our family has served churches in AL, TX, TN and FL.
With over 30 years experience in worship ministry, I found my roles and responsibilities as administrator and team strategist to consistently increase with each pastor and church staff served. Since 2018 I have served as the Executive Pastor at FBC Merritt Island, FL. My relationship with my pastors over the years have been built upon trust, respect, and loyalty. With every new church's size, shape and personality, the LORD has equipped me with invaluable shepherding experiences that have served as my teacher. Below are listed principles and values integrated into my leading philosophy, as well as descriptors of who I have been created to be as a servant of Christ: Vision exhorter (Proverbs 29:18; John 14:13-14); Unity Preserver (Ephesians 4:1-6; John 13:34-35); Discipling Shepherd (Jeremiah 3:15; Matthew 9:36); and Project Manager (John 15:4-8).

Former Executive Pastor of First Baptist Church
For the past 32 years, JD has been serving the church directly in just about every role imaginable. From student pastor, to recreation, college, discipleship, missions, lead pastor and then to his latest role, executive pastor. He has pastored in three states and six churches ranging in size from church plant to over 3500 in weekend attendance, with styles from coat and tie to jeans and boots and every worship music style on the map today.
A third generation pastor with roots deep in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri, JD has a passionate love for the church as well as those who are not a part. With that said, he realizes that for the church of today to survive and thrive it’s focus and efforts must be boldly and unashamedly pointed squarely on God’s Kingdom and it’s expansion. That means outward thrust as well and inward development. Growth of any kind, anywhere in any organization can only come through change, work and yes, a bit of discomfort. JD’s objective is to assist the 21st century church as they embrace and implement these truths.
